Bv Powersports: finding your numbers, your engine and your parts

You own one. Here is what the federal certification record says about who actually built it, what to look for on the machine itself, and how to search for parts when the badge gets you nowhere.

Who built the engine in your Bv Powersports

Bv Powersports, LLC is the name on the certificate filed with the US EPA. That is the company that brought the machine into the country, not the company that built the engine. The record names 3 different Chinese engine factories across Bv Powersports's filings — which means the badge alone does not tell you which engine you have.

It changed, and the year tells you which

This is the most useful thing on the page if you are buying parts. Two Bv Powersports machines of different years can have engines from different factories, so a part that fits one may have nothing to do with the other.

The numbers to find on the machine

Where these live depends on the shape of your machine rather than on the badge, so we do not repeat the search here — the sheets below cover it properly and are free. What matters for a Bv Powersports specifically is which number settles things: with 3 factories on the record, the engine family number is what tells you which engine you have.

  1. The emission control information label

Carries the engine family number. This is the strongest identifier your machine has and the one most owners have never looked at.

  2. The code stamped into the crankcase

Survives when the label has not. It encodes cylinder count, orientation, bore and displacement class.

  3. The VIN

Identifies the vehicle rather than the engine, and its first three characters name whoever registered it for sale.

Engine families on the record for Bv Powersports

If the label under your seat carries one of these, it is a Bv Powersports and this is the certificate it was sold under.

The other names to search under

6 other US brands sold machines whose engines came from the same factory at the same displacement. When a search for “Bv Powersports” returns nothing, these are the names worth trying instead.

How to search for a part

Searching the badge is searching the weakest information you have. These are built from Bv Powersports's own record, roughly strongest first — replace <part> with what you need, and add the measurement you took.

  1. 1CBVPX.150CYC <part>
  2. 2150cc <part>
  3. 3Jiangsu 150cc <part>
  4. 4Dongfang Motor, Inc. <part>
  5. 5Bv Powersports, LLC <part>

The strongest search usually has no badge in it at all. An engine family number plus a measurement finds listings from sellers who have never heard of Bv Powersports, which is most of them.

What this page does not tell you

This record covers certificates whose engines were built in China. Bv Powersports, LLC filed 46 certificate rows in total, of which 43 are covered here, about 93%. The rest had engines built elsewhere and are outside this registry's scope.

It also cannot tell you that a part fits. A shared factory is a research lead — a list of other badges worth searching under — and nothing more. These machines are assembled from several component suppliers, and those suppliers change, sometimes inside a single model year. Why that is, and how to measure instead.
