The problem it solves
Scooter tyres are marked in two incompatible systems — a metric one like 130/60-13 and an older inch one like 3.50-10 — and the same machine often has one of each, front and rear. Owners read the wrong field as the size, order a tyre that will not go on the rim, and only find out at fitting.
Who it is for
- Anyone ordering tyres for a machine with no manual
- Buyers checking whether a used machine has mismatched or wrong-size tyres
- Anyone reading a sidewall for the first time
What is on it
- Field-by-field decoding of both metric and inch markings
- The speed rating letter table
- The load index table
- What the date code means and how to read it
- A record block for front and rear
How to use it
- 01Read the whole marking off the sidewall, not just the first three numbers.
- 02Record front and rear separately — they are frequently different sizes and different constructions.
- 03Check the date code. A tyre with plenty of tread can still be too old to be safe.
Use it with the registry
