The problem it solves
A machine that will not start produces a flood of contradictory advice within an hour of being posted about, most of it naming a part to replace. Almost none of it starts from what the owner has actually observed, because the owner has usually not been told what to observe. This sheet is the observation part.
Who it is for
- Anyone whose machine turns over and will not fire
- Anyone whose machine does nothing at all when the button is pressed
- Owners who want to arrive at a forum or a workshop with facts rather than a symptom
What is on it
- A numbered chain of checks, each with a yes and a no branch
- A record block so the findings survive the session
- The specific failure patterns of machines that have been standing
- Explicit safety notes on fuel and electrical work
How to use it
- 01Work down in order. Skipping is what causes people to replace three parts and fix nothing.
- 02Record each answer as you go. The pattern of answers is the diagnosis, not any single one.
- 03Stop and get help rather than guessing if the machine has a fuel leak or a burning smell.
Use it with the registry
Other sheets you may want
- GY6 no spark diagnostic chartWorking back along the ignition circuit from the plug, one component at a time, without replacing anything on spec.
- Chinese scooter vacuum hose and fuel line worksheetDraw your own routing before you take it apart. There is no single correct diagram for these machines, and the only one that matters is yours.
- Spark plug record and reading logThe plug is the cheapest diagnostic instrument on the machine. A record of what it looked like each time turns it into a trend rather than a guess.
