The problem it solves
Most of what kills a scooter over a winter is not cold, it is fuel going stale in a carburettor and a battery being flattened by a clock. Both are avoidable in twenty minutes. Almost nobody does it, because the knowledge lives in forum threads rather than on a sheet you can pin to the shed wall.
Who it is for
- Anyone laying a machine up for a season
- Owners bringing a machine out of storage that has not run for months
- Buyers of a machine that has been sitting, who need to know what to check first
What is on it
- A storage checklist in the order the jobs are best done
- A separate recommissioning checklist for bringing it back
- A record of the condition it went away in
- The specific things that go wrong on carburetted machines left standing
How to use it
- 01Work down the storage list on the day you put it away, not the week before.
- 02Leave the sheet with the machine, filled in.
- 03Work down the recommissioning list before you try to start it, not after.
Use it with the registry
Other sheets you may want
- GY6 maintenance schedule and service logA service record you build yourself from what your machine actually needs, rather than from a schedule invented for a machine nobody can identify.
- Chinese scooter won't start: diagnostic chartA structured way through the four things an engine needs, ending at an observation you can make rather than a part you should buy.
- First day with a used Chinese scooterWhat to do in the first hours, before spending money on anything. Most of it costs nothing and all of it saves money later.
